Many place names of Nishi Matsue area are related to their landforms. “Doroguji” is the place name of the small section of Higashi Matsue Village that is located to the east of the Higashi Matsue River. Doroguji means the muddy land eroded and is thought to have been a swamp originally .
“Ashiike”, the reed pond, of the small section of the village is on the opposite bank ot Doroguji, and also shows the once swamp.
“Daio” of the smal section ot the village next to Ashiike implies the eroded land and was a part of a marsh near the beach.
Nishi Matsue Village is between the Higashi Matsue River and the Nishi Matsue River. Higashi Deguchi and Nishi Deguchi of the small sections of Nishi Matsue Village located at the center of the village shows that Nishi Matsue Village is older than Higashi Matsue Village. The Akaishi River divides the east part of Higashi Matsue Village from the west part of that.
The center of Higashi Matsue area is Higashino and Nishino of the small sections of villages.
Because Deguchi of the small section of Higashi Matsue Village is by the east of the Higashi Matsne River, we see that the Higashi Matsue River was the boundary between Higashi Matsue Village and Nishi Matsue Village.
