城の堀には殿様の生活空間を囲内堀、城内を囲う中堀、武家地と町人地の間の外堀がありました。
外堀は殆ど埋められ、道路などになりましたが、外堀の東である大蔵門から本松寺までの堀の北端の一部が、今も残っています。
26.The ruin of the outer moat of Akashi Castle
There were three kinds of moats of the castle. First, the inner moat surrounded the living space of the lord in the castle. Second, the middle moat surrounded the castle. The third, the outer moat divided samurais’ area from tradesmen and artisans’ area. Most of outer moats were filled and changed into the road, but we can see the northeast part of the outer moat at the place between Okuramongate and Honsho-ji temple.
