亀の水は元和7(1621)年に柿本神社の西参道を設けた際に、手水鉢として設けられたのが始まりと伝えられています。長寿の水として知られており、手水鉢には享保4(1719)年に常陸国の飯塚宣政よりの寄進と刻まれています。
18.spiritual water “Kame-no-mizu” Old Japanese believed that a tortoise can live for ten thousand years.
When they built the west approach of Kakinomoto Shrine in 1621, they installed water supply on the washbasin and called it “Kame-no-mizu or water of a tortoise” according to one report. “Kame-no-mizu” is known as the water for long life. They carved the following sentence on the washbasin “In Kyoho 4, the year of 1719, the donation from Iizuka Nobumasa in Hitachi, present Ibaraki Prefecture”.
